to allow cameras in the courtroom, could they hear the case or must they recuse themselves?

Fire With Fire
There were no TV cameras in 1787, so there is no original intent on the question.  It is like asking the Supreme Court to rule on Disco.

Under current Supreme Court reasoning, the only real consideration is what helps corporate power and I am not sure if there is a correct answer on cameras in the Supreme Court from a corporate point of view.  I guarantee that after the first few days of novelty, SupremeCam would get lousy ratings.  But, it could be that there is a "Mr. Jensen" from Network who controls one of the networks who wants the public to see the action for his own quirky reasons.  Otherwise, I would guess that the Supremes want to continue making sausage in private.
