A 79-year-old woman from Garfield Heights, Ohio, was handed a jail sentence last week after she was caught feeding stray cats,  Cleveland.com reports.

According to the newspaper, Nancy Segula was sentenced to 10 days at a local jail for the act, which is prohibited under a town ordinance that bars local residents from feeding animals in the area that they don’t legally own.

This week, Garfield Heights Municipal Court Judge Jennifer Weiler said she would like to hear the case herself after criticism arose over the sentence handed down by Garfield Heights Municipal Court Magistrate Jeffrey Short, who presided over the court while Weiler was out last week.

“There’s been about six to eight adult cats and now there’s kittens coming over, too," she continued. "I miss my own kitties, they passed away, my husband passed away. I’m lonely. So the cats and kitties outside help me.”

What a lovely police state we have.
Notice how Judge Jennifer Weiler could have cared less until the bad publicity...

Kankakee Girl Is Determined After Officials Shut Down Her Lemonade Stand

https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2019/07/31/kankakee-girl-lemonade-stand-shut-down/

On June 20, four city and workers arrived and shut down Hayli’s lemonade stand over health and sanitation concerns.

Hayli’s home has no running water or sewer services. Health officials say it’s unsanitary.

Hayli’s mother Iva Martenez, who is unemployed, is behind in the water and sewer bills.

Iva Martenez said her reaction was: “‘Are you serious? Are you really serious that we have to stop making lemonade?’ and that’s when he hit my nerve when he said: ‘Yeah, you people have to stop selling lemonade.”

Maybe we need a police state section on thecommunityforum. There are so many of these absurdities these days.

Anyone have an idea how to get in contact with Iva Martenez? I will gladly pay her water bill.

How horrible!
Well luckily the reg judge wants to rehear this.

Thank jeebus no-one’s keeping an eye on me.

I could get sent to Kitmo for life!

If it’s not the murder of crows, it’s Rufus the tiger striped kitty who showed back up after several weeks absence, last night it was the teenage fox, and before that the scruffy raccoon trying to eat bird seed. They are all scrawny. Well except for the tortoise.
With him/her, it’s a little more difficult to tell.

I can’t help but take pity on them.
No scrap around here goes to waste.

And I keep water out there for them all as well, especially in this heat.
We will not win fighting what we hate but by saving what we love.

Keep Calm and Carry On 👍

I feed Rocky Racoon, Hopps, the yard rabbit and the birds daily.
Was considering getting a salt lick for the deer. But, a little worried what they would do to my garden.
